Rail Transport Agreement between Germany and Switzerland
Aug 25, 2021 at 6:32 PMASTAG Highlights the Importance of Road Transport in Switzerland
Aug 25, 2021 at 6:47 PMCompact exterior dimensions combined with ample space and high loading volume open up a variety of usage possibilities for the new Mercedes-Benz Citan, especially in urban delivery and service traffic. It is available as a panel van as well as a tourer. Wide-opening sliding doors on both the left and right sides of the vehicle, along with a low loading edge, allow for comfortable access to the interior and easy loading of the vehicle.
(Stuttgart) Passengers in the Citan Tourer also find their seats comfortably. In addition to its high functionality and variability, the vehicle offers comprehensive safety features and high driving comfort. The new Citan can be ordered starting mid-September 2021.
“With Sprinter and Vito, we are successfully operating in the large and midsize segments. The new Citan completes our portfolio as a small van. It has been completely newly developed by professionals for professionals. From its distinctive design to its driving behavior, safety, and connectivity, the Citan embodies the DNA of Mercedes-Benz,” says Marcus Breitschwerdt, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans. “At the same time, the Citan is the last new vehicle project for commercial customers from Mercedes-Benz Vans with combustion engines. All future new developments will only be available with electric drive. A logical step in this consistent electrification is the new eCitan.”
Last Citan with Combustion Engine
“The new Citan is instantly recognizable as a member of the Mercedes-Benz family. The clear design with reduced lines and powerful surfaces conveys our philosophy of Sensual Purity,” explains Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of the Daimler Group.
A special eye-catcher in the interior is the sensual, horizontal shape of the dashboard. The full, sensually curved volume of the instrument panel was inspired by the profile of a wing. The consistently horizontal orientation was crucial. The narrow wing stretches the interior and creates a generous sense of space. The instrument unit is cut out from this. Its shape resembles a washed-out pebble stone. The slot created by the cut between the wing and stone serves as a practical shelf for quick access to important items.
Many Usage Possibilities and Convenient Loading
The Citan combines compact exterior dimensions (length: 4,498 mm) with ample space. Thanks to a variety of versions and practical equipment details, it offers many usage possibilities and convenient loading. The Citan starts as a panel van and tourer. Later, there will be additional variants with a long wheelbase as well as the Mixto. However, even with a short wheelbase (2,716 mm), the Citan offers significantly more space compared to the previous model – for example, the length of the loading area in the panel van is 3.05 meters (with a flexible partition).
Sliding doors are particularly practical in tight parking spaces. The new Citan offers up to two sliding doors. They provide a wide opening of 615 millimeters on both sides. The height of the loading opening measures 1,059 millimeters (both measurements are clear dimensions). The loading area is also easily accessible from the rear: The loading edge is 59 centimeters deep in the panel van. The two parts of the rear door can be locked in a 90-degree position and swung open up to 180 degrees to the side. They are asymmetrically divided, with the left door being wider and opened first. Optionally, the rear door for the panel van can be equipped with a heated window and wiper. A tailgate is also available upon request, which includes both equipment details.
Loading Space is Expandable
In addition to the fixed partition (available with and without a window) between the driver’s cabin and loading area, a pivoting solution is also available for the Citan panel van. This has already proven itself in the predecessor and has been further improved. If particularly long items need to be transported, this grid can be rotated 90 degrees on the passenger side, swung towards the driver’s seat, and locked. The passenger seat is foldable, creating a flat surface. The steel load protection grid can protect the driver and passenger from cargo.
Exemplary noise and seating comfort, as well as practical equipment options: Whether early in the morning on the way to the construction site, in the strenuous stop-and-go delivery traffic, or during shuttle services at the airport: The everyday life behind the wheel of a small van can be tough. Therefore, Mercedes-Benz has placed value on brand-typical comfort in the development of the Citan. This not only contributes to well-being but is also a safety argument: Relaxed drivers can concentrate better on traffic.
Panel vans and tourers are offered in the BASE and PRO equipment lines. The BASE line provides customers with a functional entry-level model with all necessary basic equipment. The PRO line combines a representative design with additional functionality.
Modern and Economical Engines
At market launch, three diesel and two petrol engines make up the engine range of the new Citan. Common strengths include good drivability even at low RPMs and favorable consumption values. For even faster acceleration, for example during overtaking maneuvers, the 85 kW version of the diesel engine, available for the panel van, offers an overpower/overtorque function. Up to 89 kW of power and 295 Nm of torque are released temporarily.
The engines meet the Euro 6d emissions standards. All engines are combined with an ECO start/stop function. In addition to the six-speed manual transmission, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) is also available for the stronger diesel and petrol models.
