Aug 14, 2021 at 9:02 PMUTA, one of the leading providers of fuel and service cards in Europe and part of the Edenred Group, supports the Truckers Life Foundation in establishing a new Truckers Gym at the Europa-Park rest area in Herbolzheim on the A5. The free-to-use open-air gym offers various training equipment where professional drivers can perform simple fitness exercises.
(Kleinostheim) The official inauguration of the facility will take place on Wednesday, August 18, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM and is open to all interested parties. A colorful entertainment program including a fitness competition will be offered, and numerous prizes and surprises await the guests. Additionally, every driver participating in the event will receive small gifts from the sponsor and Truckers Life.
Supporting Truckers in Health Protection
UTA supports the new Truckers Gym with financial resources from its “Together we care” fund, which was established to support selected projects and initiatives during the Corona pandemic. “Together we care” is a complement to the global aid initiative “More than ever” of the Edenred Group. “UTA has been a reliable partner for drivers for decades and is also committed to the health protection of drivers in their challenging everyday lives,” says Carsten Bettermann, CEO of UTA. “We have a long-standing partnership with the DocStop initiative, and with our “We care for you” actions, we have supported truckers in health protection and everyday hygiene during the peak phases of the Corona pandemic. I am very pleased that we can now also offer a sports program together with Truckers Life that can be well integrated into their work routine and provides a balance to the long hours behind the wheel.”
Europe-wide Network of Open-Air Gyms
The Truckers Gym is one of the flagship projects of the Polish non-governmental organization Truckers Life Foundation, which is committed to improving the health and safety of professional drivers. The project includes the construction of free open-air gyms in the largest parking lots in Europe. According to the “Health Report for Professional Drivers” published by the Truckers Life Foundation, around 80% of drivers are overweight or suffer from obesity of level I or II. At the same time, 53% of drivers do not engage in sports. “These numbers are alarming,” says Anna Kuzynin, project manager at Truckers Life. “As a foundation dedicated to promoting the health of professional drivers, we cannot stand idly by. In 2021, we will continue our mission consistently, and the opening of the new facility at the Europa-Park rest area in Herbolzheim is an important contribution to this.”
Health-Promoting Commitment for Truckers
The Truckers Life Foundation has been active for eight years and focuses entirely on the profession of drivers. “We are aware that our mission does not end with the construction of a fitness facility, as that is only half of the success,” says Natalia Janiszewska, spokesperson for Truckers Life. “That is why, in addition to building gyms, we also conduct information and awareness campaigns, provide guidance on good nutrition, and help facilitate entry into sports. Because one should not forget: a healthy driver is a safe driver. I am very pleased that UTA shares our values and that we can welcome UTA as a partner of the Truckers Life Foundation.”The Truckers Gym project is under the patronage of UTA, Esporg, and Kravag Parking. The new gym at the Europa-Park rest area is already the 107th facility of its kind in Europe and the 23rd in Germany.
