Aug 10, 2021 at 2:52 PMRhenus Office Systems will digitalize essential parts of the Census 2022. The document, information, and process manager won the tender. The contract includes the digitalization and recording of the paper documents from the data collection. Questionnaires from 13 federal states will be digitalized.
(Holzwickede) The Census 2022 is a population count that, unlike traditional counts, relies on existing administrative registers. To improve the quality of the data base, about ten percent of the population will be directly surveyed on a sample basis. This data must be digitalized to be available for evaluation. A particularly powerful solution for scanning and capturing is required for this purpose.
The questionnaires to be digitalized by Rhenus will come from 13 federal states. In total, around 50 million pages are expected for the years 2021 and 2022. Rhenus Office Systems will use several high-performance scanners at the Schwarzenbek location – flexibly scalable depending on the amount of data to be processed.
Transmission of Data to the Federal Statistical Office
With its corporate solution, which all companies involved in the project use, Rhenus digitalizes the documents, classifies them, extracts the desired data, and validates it. The obtained data is then transmitted to the Federal Statistical Office and is available in the digital database for review and evaluation. Incompletely filled out and illegible documents are automatically sorted out and checked manually. “Rhenus is capable of managing the entire process, from scanning the documents to processing through artificial intelligence to further processing and our customer center independently,” emphasizes Olaf Remmele, Managing Director of Rhenus Office Systems.
The four companies involved in Rhenus Office Systems have different areas of responsibility. Rhenus Docs to Data is responsible for the digitalization of the physical forms, which are previously read by Rhenus Media Systems using artificial intelligence. Rhenus :people! is responsible for the subsequent recording of the forms, while Rhenus BPO Services coordinates the entire process.
