(Frankfurt/Vantaa/Oulu/Jyväskylä) DB Schenker is on a growth path in Finland: Five terminals and more than 260 employees now belong to the network of the leading logistics service provider in Northern Europe. DB Schenker acquires the logistics partner Vähälä Logistics Oy in Finland and its 100% subsidiaries, known as Vähälä Yhtiöt. The Finnish logistics group was founded in 1937 and offers national land transport services in Central and Northern Finland as a partner of the DB Schenker network. The collaboration dates back to 1956.
“With this acquisition, we strengthen DB Schenker’s position in Europe,” says Helmut Schweighofer, CEO of DB Schenker in Europe. “With the takeover of Vähälä Yhtiöt, which is already active for DB Schenker in Finland, we have the opportunity to expand the structure of DB Schenker’s land transport network in Central and Northern Finland.”
Pioneer in environmentally friendly transport
Vähälä Yhtiöt employs 265 people and is a pioneer in environmentally friendly transport through the use of gas-powered trucks and electric vans, as well as long HCT trailers. According to the agreement, all operational business of Vähälä Yhtiöt will be taken over by DB Schenker. Both parties have agreed to keep the purchase price confidential.
After the completion of the acquisition, Vähälä Yhtiöt will operate as an independent subsidiary in national land transport alongside DB Schenker in Finland in the medium term.
