Jul 20, 2021 at 9:56 PMOn July 1, 2021, the pfenning logistics group acquired the Sonima Group. This strengthens the logistics service provider’s supply chain expertise and further expands value-added services focused on the automotive industry. Sonima generated revenue of approximately 30 million euros in 2020 and employs around 300 people.
(Heddesheim/Göllheim) Sonima GmbH, headquartered in Göllheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, has been fully integrated into KMP Holding GmbH, Heddesheim, as of July 1, 2021. Sonima was founded in 2005 by Niels Treiber and has been steadily expanded. The group specializes in global logistics and supply chain services with a focus on the automotive, supplier, and mobility industries. In addition to logistics services, the SONIMA group offers additional services such as parts cleaning, repackaging, quality control, and further processing of parts through assembly of components and CNC machining. Data management, supply chain consulting, and resident engineering complete the service portfolio.
Services over 25,000 m2
Sonima has, in addition to its headquarters in Göllheim, branches in Poland, Hungary, and Sweden. The group generated revenue of approximately 30 million euros in 2020 and employs around 300 staff, of which about 100 are in Germany. Sonima has a total of 25,000 square meters of production and logistics space, where services are provided for the entire spectrum of the vehicle and mobility industry. This does not only apply to OEMs and suppliers but also to manufacturers of agricultural machinery, industrial trucks, and other mobile equipment.
Sonima will continue to operate independently and under its established brand in the market; there will be no changes for management and staff. Niels Treiber will continue to accompany the Sonima group in project-specific and sales-related tasks as a general representative. “I am firmly convinced that the merger with the pfenning logistics group provides our clients with the security of a strong partner and offers our employees an attractive working environment. Looking ahead to future requirements, this represents the optimal solution,” said Niels Treiber regarding the company sale.
Service portfolio fits together
Karl-Martin Pfenning, owner and managing partner of the pfenning logistics group, is very pleased with the acquisition of the supply chain specialist: “Sonima fits perfectly with us in terms of service portfolio and as an owner-managed company with a similar culture. We have also been providing extensive value-added services in the automotive and supplier industry since the 1990s, including assembly and body construction. We will sustainably strengthen this expertise with Sonima to efficiently meet customer requirements together.”
The pfenning logistics group is one of the leading contract logistics service providers with a full-service offering, established in the automotive and supplier industry among others. The group has been family-owned for 90 years and employs a total of 3,700 staff, who contribute to the value chains of clients at 100 locations in Germany, Poland, Hungary, and Sweden, across a total storage area of 500,000 m² and with a fleet of 800 trucks.
Pooling of expertise
Rana Matthias Nag, managing director of the pfenning logistics group, is convinced that the acquisition enables a more efficient pooling of joint expertise in value-added services for the mobility industry: “Together, this enables us to better meet the requirements of dynamically changing supply chains in the future. Thus, the acquisition of Sonima fits perfectly into our innovation and growth strategy, which we are advancing in all areas.”
