Jul 8, 2021 at 6:11 PMAs the official logistics partner of the Austrian Space Forum (ÖWF), Gebrüder Weiss transports the unique mission equipment and 16 international scientific experiments to the test site in Israel. After the date had to be postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, preparations for the transport from Austria to the Israeli Negev Desert have now begun.
(Innsbruck/Lauterach) The international logistics service provider Gebrüder Weiss is starting preparations for the transport of sensitive equipment to the mission area in Israel. From October 4 to 31, the ÖWF, together with international research partners, will conduct the simulated astronautical Mars mission “Amadee-20” there.
Apprentices organize transport
To organize the transport, young talents at Gebrüder Weiss are deliberately involved. Four trainees take on all logistical tasks, customs clearance, and the transport of the mission equipment under guidance. Under the hashtag #marsmonday, they regularly provide personal insights into the extraordinary project on social media.
About the Amadee-20 project
From October 4 to 31, the ÖWF leads the international Mars analog mission “Amadee-20”. Experiments from Austria, Germany, France, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Sweden, the United Kingdom, and the USA will be conducted by six specially trained analog astronauts from the ÖWF. The mission’s equipment fills two sea freight containers, which Gebrüder Weiss transports from Innsbruck to the mission site, a Mars-like area of the Negev Desert in Israel. The experts wear the spacesuit simulator “Aouda,” developed by the ÖWF, during the mission. Currently, only five organizations worldwide are working on a similarly complex spacesuit simulator. The analog astronauts (field crew) in Israel are supported by the Mission Support Center in Innsbruck, where several teams are responsible for scientific support of the field crew, creation of the mission schedule, securing collected data, and medical monitoring of the field crew. Amadee-20 is the ÖWF’s 13th Mars analog mission.
