Jul 1, 2021 at 5:10 PMAfter just eleven months of construction, FIEGE has completed the new logistics center for the Healthcare division in Zülpich. In the 54,000 square meter logistics center located in the Römerallee industrial area, FIEGE will handle logistics operations for Dräger, among others. Zülpich, situated in the triangle of Cologne-Bonn-Aachen, will serve as the central logistics and distribution location for the Lübeck-based company.
(Greven/Zülpich) From Zülpich, FIEGE will supply the internationally leading company in medical and safety technology with Dräger products to healthcare facilities, industrial customers, public clients, and specialized retailers worldwide.
“With experience in the healthcare sector and a large service portfolio, FIEGE is an important partner for us, offering high flexibility and innovation, positioning us well for our future growth,” says Jürgen Gerhold, Corporate Projects at Dräger. In medical technology, Dräger manufactures, among other things, ventilators for intensive and emergency medicine, anesthesia devices, and equipment for the medical care of premature and newborn infants. In the field of safety technology, the company is considered a global leader in personal and plant protection equipment and gas measurement technology.
The Municipality of Zülpich is Excited
FIEGE is creating around 250 new jobs at the Zülpich location. “At the beginning of August last year, we were able to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new logistics center in the presence of NRW Transport Minister Hendrik Wüst and the then still in office district administrator Günter Rosenke. It is very impressive to see how quickly the new building has taken shape. We are pleased that we were able to attract the family-owned company FIEGE to our economic location Zülpich. FIEGE will be one of the largest employers in our region,” says Zülpich’s mayor Ulf Hürtgen.
The new building consists of four larger units and one smaller unit with two attached office buildings and a gatehouse. The logistics center is certified according to DGNB, features charging infrastructure for electric mobility, highly efficient LED lighting, comprehensive building management technology, and a photovoltaic system. The generated electricity can be directly utilized by FIEGE as the operator. In the outdoor areas, 135 trees and over 2,500 shrubs have been planted to green the facade.
Support from the Authorities
The construction method of the new building also allows for flexible responses to the diverse requirements of customers. “We are pleased to be able to put the new FIEGE location in Zülpich into operation on schedule despite the Corona pandemic and to welcome many new colleagues to the FIEGE family. A big thank you to the city of Zülpich. From the very beginning, we felt welcomed here as a contract logistics provider and family business – and we could always count on the support of the city during the development of the project,” says Jan Fiege, Managing Director Real Estate at FIEGE.
Goldbeck International as the general contractor and the architectural firm Jürgen Schlake have implemented the new construction project together with FIEGE Real Estate. The investor for the project is LIP Invest from Munich, a leading investment manager for logistics properties in Germany. Bodo Hollung, partner and managing director of LIP Invest, is pleased about the completion of the logistics new building, for which LIP invested around 50 million euros last year: “Both the favorable location in one of the most attractive logistics regions in Germany and the very high-quality and modern construction style for which FIEGE is known quickly convinced us. We are very pleased to be able to further diversify our logistics fund with this top property.”
Intralogistics Still to be Completed
To commence logistics operations, the intralogistics technology still needs to be completed. Recruitment has already started during the construction work. Some new positions have already been filled. Currently, the search is primarily focused on team leaders and skilled employees. “Dräger is a special customer for us due to its wide range of products as a manufacturer of medical and safety technology. And we are prepared to handle time-critical orders flexibly and quickly and to find creative solutions for special requests,” says Dirk Berlemann, Managing Director FIEGE Healthcare. “For this, we are assembling a well-trained and experienced team.”
The jobs in healthcare logistics at FIEGE offer a very interesting, sustainable, and forward-looking area of responsibility with a high quality awareness. The FIEGE team in Zülpich will now initially conduct numerous test runs of the individual processes in the warehouse to ensure a successful production start by the end of the year and that the first shipments can officially leave the FIEGE warehouse.
