Jun 30, 2021 at 12:49 PMPanattoni, the developer of industrial and logistics properties, is developing a logistics center for Amazon in Salzgitter. The new building is being constructed on a 49,000 sqm brownfield site. Completion is scheduled for spring 2022. The property has excellent connections to the highways. This is the seventh property that Panattoni has developed for Amazon.
(Hamburg/Salzgitter) Panattoni, the leading project developer for industrial and logistics properties in Europe, is developing a logistics property for Amazon. The facility is located in Salzgitter, Lower Saxony, with excellent access to the A2, A7, A36, and A39 motorways.
At the distribution center, Amazon will sort incoming packages from its European logistics network and collaborate with local independent delivery partners to deliver the packages to customers. This is the seventh property that Panattoni has realized for Amazon in Germany. The developer has already built distribution centers in Kaltenkirchen north of Hamburg, Knüllwald near Kassel, in Magdeburg, and in Jade-Weser-Park.
Central Location in Lower Saxony
On a conversion area of a total of 49,030 sqm, approximately 5,097 sqm of logistics space and 2,806 sqm of office and social space will be created. Additionally, there will be 389 parking spaces for delivery vehicles on the exterior.
“We are pleased that Amazon once again trusts in our expertise and speed. Amazon’s expansion is enormous. This new development shows that we can keep pace with the demands,” explains Fred-Markus Bohne, Managing Partner at Panattoni. He further states: “Salzgitter is a new location for us, which holds a lot of development potential due to its central location in Lower Saxony. We thank the municipality for their approval to revitalize a comparatively large brownfield site on-site.”
Better Service on the Last Mile
Martin Andersen, Director of Amazon Logistics in Germany, shares the following thoughts on the establishment: “With the new distribution center in Salzgitter, we can offer even better service for merchants and customers on the last mile. Additionally, we are creating around 130 full-time and part-time jobs on-site. Several hundred more positions will be available as drivers with Amazon’s delivery partners.”
Demolition work and construction began in June 2021, with Panattoni planning completion for spring 2022. The land acquisition was facilitated by the consulting firm JLL.
