Jun 28, 2021 at 6:02 PMThe Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) and DHL honor sustainability commitments and initiatives with the newly created Sustainable Endurance Award at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the World Endurance Championship. The award was introduced as part of the ACO’s new sustainability strategy under the motto ‘EngageMans for the Planet’.
(Bonn) DHL Global Forwarding, the air and sea freight specialist of Deutsche Post DHL Group, and the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) jointly award the Sustainable Endurance Award for the most sustainable team during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Two aspects are considered when selecting the winner: The ‘Low Carbon Impact’ focuses on reducing CO2 emissions related to the transport of materials and people as well as logistics from the workshops to the racetracks. Around ‘Positive Innovation’, contributions to innovative social or ecological initiatives that create added value for the communities of the teams in their home countries are considered. The winner of the competition will be announced during the race weekend at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The race is scheduled for August 21 and 22, 2021.
Quality and Transparency of Sustainability Initiatives
“We are proud to have been the official logistics partner of the World Endurance Championship for almost ten years now,” says Thomas George, CEO DHL Global Forwarding Europe, Global Head of Marketing and Sales. “We are very pleased to have found a partner in the ACO who cares about sustainability just as much as we do. As experts in sustainable logistics, we are excited to continuously support efforts for a more sustainable championship and to recognize the teams that are committed to it.” The performance of the teams is evaluated by a jury based on the quality and transparency of the sustainability initiatives. Additionally, fans can vote for their favorite project. The winning team will receive an attractive prize: a cash prize to invest in sustainable innovations and projects, as well as the Sustainable Endurance Award trophy made from sustainable and recycled materials, which will be awarded at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Official Logistics Partner of the FIA WEC
The award was introduced as part of the ACO’s new sustainability strategy under the motto ‘EngageMans for the Planet’ and recognizes their commitment to promoting sustainable mobility. These efforts align with the sustainability strategy of Deutsche Post DHL Group and the goal of zero emissions logistics by 2050. In this context, Deutsche Post DHL Group alone will invest 7 billion euros in green solutions by 2030 to reduce its emissions to below 29 million tons. DHL has been the official logistics partner of the FIA WEC since 2012 and is responsible for transporting all motorsport materials and equipment of the teams to overseas events, from organizing and booking chartered cargo planes, sea freight, and truck transports to handling all documents and coordinating, monitoring, and managing all ad-hoc transports at the racetracks.
