Jun 23, 2021 at 5:38 PMThe Lübeck Port Company (LHG) has put a new access point into operation at the Scandinavian Quay in Travemünde. The so-called ‘Paper-Gate’ is available to all trucks that pick up or deliver cargo at the forest products terminal. It is also used for exiting, thus relieving the South Gate and operates completely automatically.
(Lübeck) For this terminal, the LHG, together with the Lübeck Port Authority (LPA), had planned a separate access from the very beginning. Now, the ‘Paper-Gate’, located west of the Scandinavian Quay, has been completed and put into operation after nearly a year of construction. The area covers ten thousand square meters. It has a total of 36 parking spaces that are exclusively reserved for forest product traffic. Before entering the main gate of the Scandinavian Quay, trucks turn left. They pass the LHG’s weekly changeover area and take the fourth exit at the roundabout.
Drivers Register Independently
To pick up or deliver cargo, drivers register themselves via a kiosk system. On the screens, they can register their transport and print documents. The menu is multilingual. As soon as capacity is available at the terminal, they receive an SMS prompting them to enter. Using a barcode, they open the barrier and gain access to the port area and exit again. The gate-out process, meaning deregistering a truck, is also electronic. All generated documents are archived. The fully automated Paper-Gate is a component of the digitalization strategy of the LHG Group. Further projects are in progress. For example, the LHG is testing loading trucks and wagons using a digitally generated template. The company also plans to conduct storage planning for forest products such as cardboard and paper with digital support in the future.
