Jun 10, 2021 at 5:55 PMSince last year, Lufthansa Cargo has been offering its customers transport options in so-called charters – passenger aircraft used solely for freight transport. Recently, the 50th charter connection from Frankfurt to Chicago was carried out for the Baden-Württemberg transport company EgeTrans Internationale Spedition GmbH.
(Frankfurt am Main/Marbach am Neckar) On board the A340 and A350 aircraft, important spare and manufacturing parts, particularly for the agricultural and commercial vehicle sectors, have been transported since last December. This once again demonstrates the carrier’s commitment to fast and reliable air transport. By supplying businesses with essential goods, they can continue their production even during the pandemic and strengthen the global economy.
“We are proud to offer our long-standing partner EgeTrans such a tailored service. The extensive expertise within the Lufthansa Group enables us to find quick solutions for our customers and respond to the constantly changing demands,” explains Achim Martinka, Vice President Germany at Lufthansa Cargo.
1,500 Freight Flights in Passenger Aircraft
“The Lufthansa Cargo charters operate like clockwork – the reliability of the airline and the customer-oriented support from the Stuttgart sales team are a real added value for us,” adds Florian Naujocks, the main responsible person and initiator of the charter project, air freight manager at EgeTrans.
Due to the limited capacity for additional cargo in the bellies of passenger aircraft, Lufthansa Cargo has been regularly conducting pure freight transports in specially equipped passenger planes since last year. Since March 2020, the cargo airline has conducted around 1,500 such flights worldwide. This has helped maintain global supply chains even during the pandemic and ensured the transport of urgently needed goods, such as medicines or medical equipment.
