Jun 9, 2021 at 7:26 PMThe L.I.T. Group expands: Since May 1, 2021, the northern German logistics service provider has been represented with its first location in Spain. From the new Barcelona office, located near the international seaport, a three-member team will now handle export and import orders for the Iberian Peninsula. Initially, the business will focus on the air and sea sector as well as overland transport in the automotive and food sectors.
(Brake/Barcelona) “Barcelona has clearly emerged as the new Spanish L.I.T. location: As the second-largest container port in the country and surrounded by the local automotive industry, the metropolis offers us an ideal environment,” says Simeon Breuer, Managing Director of L.I.T. Speditions GmbH and board member of L.I.T. AG. Since early May, the Braker logistics service provider has been processing inquiries for Spanish imports and exports from the automotive and food industries by ship and airplane from the Catalan capital. Road transport by truck is expected to be activated shortly. Previously, L.I.T. collaborated with partner companies and agents for such orders. In the long term, the company aims to establish a broader presence and explore additional industrial fields. Furthermore, with the connection of Southern Europe, the network for international intermodal transport will be expanded.
Fifteenth Location Abroad
The now fifteenth foreign branch of L.I.T. had been planned since 2019, but the Corona crisis delayed the entire process. “Recruiting the team alone took three to four times longer than usual. But now we have found a top team, and the pandemic is gradually losing significance for our industry,” reports Breuer. Three employees from the areas of sales and business development are responsible for the Spanish operations, with support from the German headquarters and the leading operations manager of L.I.T. Air & Sea GmbH, Michael Borowski.
The Spanish Market Operates Differently
“The L.I.T. philosophy of speaking the ‘language of the customer’ applies here literally, as the Spanish market operates differently than the German one,” explains Breuer. Not only do the processes with shipping companies and port operators differ, but the competitive market is also structured differently: “While in Germany you are dealing with big players among competitors, the Spanish market is more fragmented – but we see our opportunity in that.” Having local staff and mastering the native language is a significant advantage. The newly appointed goal of the new location is to establish a stable customer base.
