Jun 8, 2021 at 7:21 PMGüttler Logistik GmbH is expanding its Gigaliner fleet: In addition to the three already operational long trucks, the logistics company is putting another 21-meter-long combination of a machine truck with a fixed structure and a through-loading tandem trailer into operation. This will replace an existing Gigaliner of type 3, which will be used elsewhere for lower payload needs.
(Hof/Saale) With this new acquisition, the Franconian logistics company is responding to the increased demand for general cargo transport. Furthermore, the Gigaliners have a positive impact on the CO2 balance of the logistics specialist. “The general cargo segment has significantly increased in recent months due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting difficulties in shopping for private individuals, and it is likely to remain at an elevated level even after the reopening of brick-and-mortar retail. To handle these increased transport volumes with the usual quality, we have now put another Gigaliner into operation for our hub transports,” says Johannes Reuther, Managing Partner of Güttler Logistik GmbH.
Greater Utilization with the Gigaliner
The company is simultaneously pursuing its Green Logistics strategy with this new acquisition. “With the new Gigaliner, we save at least 30 percent of our previous CO2 emissions per trip at full capacity,” explains Reuther. Due to its overall concept, which has been reduced by the dolly and one axle, the empty weight of the new Gigaliner has been reduced from 24 to 17.5 tons compared to the predecessor vehicle. This allows for an additional payload of 6.5 tons. “This is of immense importance, especially in the general cargo sector,” Reuther continues. Additionally, the reduced axle trailer concept optimizes fuel consumption by approximately 1.5 liters.
With the ability to load double-decker, the logistics company is more flexible in loading and securing cargo than before. An innovative through-loading device also ensures that the trailer of the Gigaliner does not need to be separated and maneuvered, which, according to Reuther, significantly optimizes the ramp situation and the time required there: “When calculated over a driver’s workday, this adds up to up to 30 minutes.”
Güttler will cover the traffic between its headquarters in Hof (Saale) and the hub of the general cargo cooperation ONLINE Systemlogistik with the new long truck.
