Jun 7, 2021 at 8:21 PMThe Provadis University of Applied Sciences and the Federal Association of Goods Transport, Logistics, and Waste Management (BGL) e.V. – both based in Frankfurt am Main – have jointly developed a new dual logistics degree program. Through the cooperation between Provadis University and BGL, a new and unique learning concept is being implemented in the Transport and Logistics Management (Bachelor of Science) program.
(Frankfurt/Main) Together, Provadis University and the Federal Association of Goods Transport, Logistics, and Waste Management (BGL) e.V. aim to train today’s employees for the demands of tomorrow – equipped with the theoretical knowledge and practical tools to meet the current and future challenges in a globally and digitally operating economy.
During their studies, students will regularly work in their companies and will be primarily taught online – in virtual classrooms, but also in self-directed learning units – as well as in various in-person events, following the proven Provadis concept that has been in place for over ten years. In this context, Provadis University employs its own practice-oriented professors, and BGL, as the leading association of the German transport and logistics industry, also provides lecturers, ensuring a crucial and pioneering connection to current topics in logistics, information logistics, and politics at both the federal and European levels. Through the design of the courses, students gain a unique mix of theoretical foundational knowledge and practical reference points – conveyed by lecturers and professors who are well-acquainted with practice.
Training for the Challenges of the Future
“The goal of Provadis University and BGL is to train and prepare program participants for the current challenges and those of the future, together with partner companies and the industry,” says the Dean of Business Sciences at Provadis University, Prof. Dr. Ursula Bicher-Otto.
“The taught content ranges from general business and economics or statistics to the fundamentals and framework conditions of logistics and transport modes, supply chain management (SCM), or cost accounting in logistics, to digitalization, Industry 4.0, as well as the current and planned political framework conditions and initiatives in Brussels and Berlin. The topics of innovation and ethics round off the learning concept,” adds program director Prof. Dr. Peter Holm. The program is located in the Department of Business Sciences at Provadis University.
Part of the Lectures in English
A portion of the lectures is designed in English to prepare students for an internationally operating logistics market. The program is scheduled to start in Fall 2021. Initially, Frankfurt am Main is planned as the location for the in-person events.
“Another advantage: Due to the federal structure of BGL with its state associations and its own international office in Brussels, as well as collaborations with France and the Scandinavian countries, other study locations can be activated at any time if needed. Additionally, with the Road Traffic Cooperative (SVG) and the industry insurer KRAVAG, further strong partners of BGL are available for future adjustments and developments,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt from BGL.
The establishment of a business advisory board is planned to continuously align the program with the needs of practice through mutual dialogue with representatives from the logistics industry and the economy. Prof. Dr. Dirk Engelhardt, the chairman of the board of BGL, will contribute his insights. “We look forward to the dialogue with companies in the logistics industry, the shipping economy, and especially with the students,” emphasizes Prof. Dr. Ursula Bicher-Otto.
