May 12, 2021 at 5:51 PMHapag-Lloyd and Boris Herrmann have signed an official sponsorship agreement for five years. The world-renowned skipper and his organization, operating under the name Team Malizia, aim to raise awareness of climate change. The team participated in the non-stop Vendée Globe race last year.
(Hamburg) Team Malizia gained fame in 2020 when Boris Herrmann participated in the non-stop Vendée Globe race, carrying the message “A Race We Must Win” on the sails of his yacht. During his sailing missions, Team Malizia has collected valuable scientific data from the most remote parts of the world. This data helps researchers understand the impacts of climate change on the oceans.
“I am extremely happy to receive the full support of Hapag-Lloyd,” said Boris Herrmann. “Last year, we already developed a strong partnership, and I can feel Hapag-Lloyd’s determination to become a leader in decarbonization. It will be a pleasure for me to carry the Hapag-Lloyd logo on the sail of my racing yacht.”
Protection of Oceans and Biodiversity
As part of its strong and ongoing commitment to protecting the environment, oceans, and biodiversity, Hapag-Lloyd has taken measures in recent years to significantly reduce its own environmental impact and make further progress towards decarbonization.
Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said: “Boris Herrmann and Hapag-Lloyd share the same values, as together we want to help find solutions that counteract a climate crisis. We firmly believe that we can achieve a lot together. While Boris and his team continue to focus on winning races, marine research, and educational initiatives, we will work intensively to contribute to the further and faster decarbonization of the shipping industry.”
