(Bern) WEKO has evidence suggesting that several transport companies for goods and waste in the canton of Valais have engaged in bid-rigging agreements. During a tender process for waste collection and disposal, there may have been coordination of bids among the transport companies. WEKO has conducted several house searches and is now investigating whether there are indeed anti-competitive restrictions in violation of antitrust laws.
When companies coordinate their bidding behavior in public or private procurement, they engage in so-called bid-rigging agreements. Typically, the bidders align their offers with the aim of awarding a contract to one company at a specific price. In the past, WEKO has conducted numerous investigations against bid-rigging cartels, particularly in the construction sector. It continues its fight against these harmful agreements, which cause significant economic damage.
