E-commerce Often Outperforms Brick-and-Mortar Retail in Climate Balance

Also in focus on yesterday’s “Logistics Day”: The impacts of the Suez Canal blockade, the state of research, the use of digital tools, and career and study opportunities in Germany’s third-largest economic sector. 107 offerings were in the program, which the interested public, as well as professionals, could participate in free of charge. The events mainly came from Germany, but also from Bulgaria, Greece, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
Logistics Performance During the Pandemic Has Sparked Curiosity
In addition, there were many actions on the internet, where photos, videos, stories, and more were posted. In total, the hashtags #tagderlogistik and #tdl21 alone reached around 200,000 people on the action day itself. “I am excited to see that Logistics Day also attracts such great interest as a digital behind-the-scenes look over the internet,” says BVL Chairman Prof. Thomas Wimmer. “Certainly, the significant performance of logisticians and supply chain managers during the pandemic has fueled curiosity, as many questions were raised during the events about how supply was maintained and continues to be maintained.”
400 Students Virtually Visiting
Some highlights among many: About 400 students attended the digital career exploration of MIT-Rhein Kreis Neuss “From Clicking to Ringing” and heard greetings from Reiner Breuer, Mayor of the City of Neuss, and Hermann Gröhe, Member of the German Bundestag and former Federal Minister of Health. Ingram Micro virtually guided through a fashion logistics center for e-commerce and showed what needs to happen for the new clothes to be delivered within one to two days. Four of 15 Amazon locations in Germany participated in a joint online event with an entertaining journey through the Amazon world – from goods receipt to picking and packing stations, scanning and addressing, to loading onto trucks. LH Cargo provided a behind-the-scenes look at vaccine logistics in Frankfurt. Logistics is a field with a future and the third-largest economic sector in Germany. In total, it generated a revenue of 268 billion euros in 2020. About 3 million people are employed in logistics and supply chain management. The next Logistics Day is on April 21, 2022.
