Apr 15, 2021 at 11:12 AMTX Logistik AG is expanding its intermodal connection between Germany and Romania. The railway logistics company, which is part of the Mercitalia Group, will increase the number of round trips on the Cologne – Curtici route from five to seven per week starting May 10. The reason for this is the increased demand for rail transport capacity on this route.
(Troisdorf) With the higher frequency, TX Logistik is primarily responding to the growing interest of Romanian and Italian freight forwarders in traffic on the West-East connection. The trains operate between the CTS Container Terminal in Cologne-Niehl and the Trade Trans Terminal in Curtici, which is only a few kilometers from the border with Hungary. TX Logistik is responsible for and manages the entire transport chain.
Up to 44 loading units can fit on one train. Both semi-trailers and mega trailers, as well as tankers, bulk goods, or 45-inch containers can be transported. Vehicle components are among the items transported towards Curtici. In the opposite direction, the trains are mainly loaded with furniture and other consumer goods.
Ongoing Increase in Frequency Since Launch
On this route, TX Logistik also uses the NiKRASA handling system, which allows non-craneable semi-trailers to be easily and quickly loaded onto the train. Currently, an average of up to four NiKRASA units are loaded per train.
The Cologne – Curtici connection was already integrated into TX Logistik’s European network in 2018. At the start, there were three round trips per week. Due to high demand, the weekly frequency has been increased over time to currently five departures per direction.
