Apr 14, 2021 at 6:56 PMecoCARRIER AG is a new player in urban logistics. An innovative cargo bike technology ensures a high payload and excellent driving behavior. ecoCARRIER operates its own hubs at strategic locations. A gradual network expansion with major users is planned. ecoCARRIER is a logistics service provider and cargo bike manufacturer in one.
(Stuttgart) Major cities like Hamburg and Berlin are pursuing the goal of making mobility more efficient, safer, and environmentally friendly as part of their strategy for intelligent traffic and transport systems. The aim is particularly to optimize the movement of people and goods and to minimize the presence of diesel-powered vehicles in the city. ecoCARRIER is now launching a turnkey service package.
Transport that is currently primarily carried out by trucks or vans will mainly be handled by cargo bikes. Reliability, durability, and large storage space combine with flexibility and environmental friendliness, enabling the future of goods transport in an urban environment.
Innovative Cargo Bike Technology
Together with engineers from the aviation industry, a new generation of cargo bikes has been developed. Starting from the drive technology, wheels that can carry high payloads, and tilting technology that allows for significantly improved driving behavior – to name just a few points.
Another essential aspect is the standardization of loading areas. The common external dimensions of the Euro pallet have been used as a basis. This allows for optimal use of space by all standardized containers and pallets and enables seamless integration into the customers’ supply chain.
In this context, close collaboration is also taking place with companies developing the use of reusable containers – from the supplier to the delivery to the end customer (currently, thousands of paper bags are being used for this purpose). Another contribution to environmental protection and improved quality of life.
Complete Service Package
Due to decades of experience in providing freight forwarding services, ecoCARRIER’s experts have excellent knowledge of customer requirements from the areas of KEP, food, and various industries of general cargo. The necessary IT interfaces for integration into the customers’ supply chain are also available or can be created at short notice. Thus, ecoCARRIER offers its customers tailored service packages.
City Hubs
In numerous cities, so-called city or microhubs have already been established. Additional areas for network expansion have already been reserved and can be activated depending on customer demand.
Significant locations are already in operation, for example, in Berlin, Cologne, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart – to name just a few. All hubs are referred to as “white label hubs.” With its own service provider VeloCARRIER, around 4,000 deliveries (packages and food) are currently being made daily with approximately 45 cargo bikes – with a strong upward trend. From May, 85 bikes will be in use, increasing total deliveries to 8,500 daily. The hub in Stuttgart alone will handle 1,500 shipments daily. Customers include major companies from the food retail, drugstore, e-commerce, and KEP service sectors.
Shareholders
The shareholders of ecoCARRIER AG are Raimund Rassillier and Torsten Fauser – already successfully operating with VeloCARRIER in many German cities in the field of cargo bike logistics for years, as well as Ekart Kuhn and Christian Kühnhold – the logistics experts and founders of Smart City Loop GmbH. “We cannot view the transport of goods into city centers separately from the redistribution to the recipient,” Kühnhold explains the motivation for the company’s participation. “With ecoCARRIER, we offer not only sustainable and economical transport solutions but also the development and operation of multifunctional city/microhubs, thus providing clear advantages for our customers,” says Raimund Rassillier.
