Apr 8, 2021 at 7:33 PMDahl, one of Sweden’s leading wholesale companies in the fields of sanitary, pipes, climate and refrigeration technology, property management, and tools, has chosen SSI Schäfer as a partner for the construction of a new central warehouse in Kiruna, Sweden, to supply the Swedish market.
(Neunkirchen) The new distribution center will ensure the provision of building technology equipment between approximately 2,000 suppliers and 36,000 craftsmen, both through direct deliveries to construction sites and via sales in Dahl’s 70 branches across Sweden, from Kiruna in the north to Ystad in the south.
“The technology in our new facility sets new standards. We will build an advanced warehouse and look forward to a highly automated system, which will soon operate not far from our current warehouse. This allows us to maintain internal competencies,” says Jonathan Mankowitz, Logistics Director at Dahl.
Challenge of Product Range
SSI Schäfer’s solution includes an area for pallet handling with pallet conveyor technology for transporting goods to and from workstations, as well as a high-bay warehouse for pallet storage. Small parts will find their place in the 24-meter-high shuttle warehouse, where both containers for single-item picking and cartons for palletizing will be stored by the level-shifting shuttle SSI Flexi. Picking will be carried out at goods-to-person workstations before the order is completed and shipped by palletizing robots. The new distribution center will be built in Bålsta and will replace the current warehouse in Kalhäll as well as some satellite warehouses.
“The greatest challenge was Dahl’s diverse and specialized product range and the associated high ergonomic demands when handling these products. From day one, we worked as a team with Dahl. The result is a unique warehouse with a high degree of automation and some innovative solutions,” summarizes Hans Ekström, Solution Design Manager at SSI Schäfer and project manager.
The commissioning of the SSI Schäfer facility is planned for 2023.
