Mar 16, 2021 at 7:13 PMVTG AG and Intermodal Telematics BV (IMT) are collaborating on digitalization. 15,000 freight wagons will be equipped with CLT20-Ex GPS units. This enables monitoring of location, load status, and freight-related values. Data transmitted by IMT will be collected and evaluated on the VTG platform.
(Hamburg) Intermodal Telematics BV (IMT) and VTG AG have agreed to a long-term partnership to further digitalize the VTG wagon fleet. Initially, IMT will supply 15,000 central CLT20-Ex GPS units over the next 15 months under this new agreement. The volume can be significantly increased in the coming years. The solar-powered CLT20-Ex allows for unlimited wireless data transmission, enabling optimal accuracy. This meets the high quality and safety standards that VTG AG demands in the field of telematics and information provision for its customers.
High Level of Flexibility
“VTG has selected IMT as a new additional telematics partner due to its solution-oriented approach to meet our specific hardware requirements. The fact that IMT has its own research and development team with experienced hardware, software, and firmware engineers, and offers a high level of flexibility thanks to complete in-house production, was a key reason for our decision. We continue to digitalize our entire VTG fleet, and IMT will support us in achieving our goals regarding data integration and global connectivity,” says Dr. Hanno Schell, Head of Technical Innovations at VTG. The award-winning CLT20-Ex demonstrates IMT’s innovative strength and competence as a leading provider of telematics solutions. The solar-powered GPS unit allows for unlimited data transmission and permanent operational reliability for freight wagons and other transport vehicles without their own power source. Since the CLT20-Ex serves as a central hub for all IMT sensors installed on a wagon, it forms a solid foundation for near-real-time information on location (worldwide), load status, and freight-related values such as temperature, liquid level, and pressure.
Collaboration on Various Projects
IMT and VTG have already been collaborating on various projects for three years, and the new partnership agreement will deepen this collaboration further. Dethmer Drenth, founder and managing director of IMT, says: “We are very pleased about this solid partnership with VTG, the largest private wagon rental company in Europe and one of the leading providers of multimodal logistics services. VTG AG offers its customers the highest service and transparency. Together, we want to bring about change through innovation and technical leadership. When transporting goods for the mineral oil, energy, or chemical industries, optimal insight into fleet operations and its precise monitoring are essential to ensure high quality of both the goods and the transport itself. VTG connects worlds, IMT connects data and transforms it into valuable information.”
Global Monitoring
IMT’s solution provides comprehensive insights, allowing customers to better monitor product quality and improve the safety and efficiency of the logistics process. All data collected and transmitted by IMT about the wagon and its load are gathered on the VTG platform. “Accurate data provision, global monitoring, analysis and reporting, as well as timely intervention if necessary, are of unprecedented value for the transport of liquids and sensitive goods. The IMT solution provides us with valuable insights and adds value for our customers in their daily practice. We aim to achieve efficiency gains, safety improvements, and a reduction of the overall ecological footprint. Therefore, we appreciate the close collaboration with IMT’s software engineering team to coordinate the seamless integration of the provided data. Together, we are creating a sustainable digital environment that meets both VTG’s and our customers’ information needs,” adds Hanno Schell.
