(Unterföhring/Neuburg Donau) The logistics and fulfillment service provider Loxxess AG is preparing for increased demand in the area of hazardous goods logistics. This response addresses the challenges of the Corona pandemic and the reorganization of production processes for system-relevant goods such as medical, pharmaceutical, and hygiene products. As early as spring 2020, at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the family-owned company increased its distribution services by up to 40 percent due to the rising demand for disinfectants. The driving force was the heightened demand from wholesalers, retailers, and hospitals.
Rising Demand for Handling Special Goods
“The Corona pandemic has clearly highlighted the vulnerability of global goods and supply chains. Many companies are responding by reassessing their supply chains and expanding regional structures to ensure the supply of the population with products from the medical and pharmaceutical segments even in times of crisis,” says Dr. Claus-Peter Amberger, board member of Loxxess AG. “Due to the noticeably increasing demand for the storage and handling of special goods, we at Loxxess are preparing for a growing need for hazardous goods storage and handling. With over 20 years of expertise in dealing with hazardous materials, we are excellently positioned for this.” At the Neuburg an der Donau location in Bavaria, the logistics service provider offers hazardous goods storage of classes 2 to 9 as well as for all water hazard classes (WGK) on an area of 20,000 sqm in a total of five separable areas. The facility has a special permit as a major accident hazard facility in accordance with BImSchV. In addition to various value-added services such as labeling, display assembly, and quality controls, Loxxess enables the complete handling of hazardous goods transports on road, sea, and air, including transport planning, documentation, and freight management. Furthermore, Loxxess provides support in hazardous goods consulting and in approval procedures.
Logistics Center is Well Connected
The logistics center has 23,000 pallet spaces, an air security warehouse, and a separate storage area for aerosols. The logistics center is equipped with hazardous materials-compliant sprinklers as well as an alarm and gas warning system in all areas of the hall, allowing for 24-hour operation. In addition to the use of special equipment such as a portal crane system with suction grippers and a clamp truck for drum handling, there is a side loading and unloading option for the building. The facility also has a protected IT infrastructure and a modern quality and environmental management system.
