(Bremen) Logistics and supply chain management are relevant, stabilizing, and efficient functional areas in our economic system – this has been made clear to the general public by the situation of the past months. Logistics service providers and the logistics departments of companies in industry and trade perform essential functions for society, from stocking shelves in retail to logistics for vaccines and life-saving medications.
Behind this are further demanding tasks such as procurement, warehouse management, distribution, process optimization, and personnel planning – with important support from modern IT solutions. As a professional field, logistics also offers exciting, challenging, and meaningful activities. Logistics Day is an opportunity for companies to publicize these facts, strengthen the image that the economic sector has built over the past months, and thereby ensure lasting acceptance.
For the year 2020, experts estimate a total output of 268 billion euros, making logistics the third-largest economic sector in Germany. More than 3 million people are employed in logistics and supply chain management.
Showing the Good Can Also Be Done Online
To take advantage of the opportunity for image work, companies and organizations now need to create and promote a corresponding event offering. Whether it will be possible to physically open doors and welcome visitors is questionable given the pandemic situation. However, the internet and digital tools, for example, also offer opportunities to utilize the action day: with webinars, video conferences, live streams, vlogs, blogs, photos, and much more. Companies that do not wish to hold an event can intensify their press work on that day, draw attention to logistics with actions on their websites, or be active on social media. In this way, the topics of the logistics economic sector are presented to the public together.
Some events are already available on the website www.tag-der-logistik.de. In addition, the SME and Economic Union Rhein-Kreis Neuss is planning a digital career exploration together with numerous companies to attract potential young talent for logistics and supply chain management. Amazon has also announced that on April 15, it will offer virtual company tours from various locations on the internet to provide interested parties with exciting insights into the world of logistics centers.
Opportunities for All Involved
Logistics Day takes place annually on the third Thursday in April and has been initiated by the BVL since 2008. They operate the website www.tag-der-logistik.de, the central communication channel. The events are organized by the companies themselves and posted online there, and they are free for participants.
Thus, Logistics Day offers opportunities for everyone – companies can foster greater acceptance among neighbors and politicians, strengthen customer and employee contacts, or attract potential new employees. Participants can see live what logistical work, functions, and processes they trigger in their daily lives and what job opportunities may arise there.
More on the System Relevance of Logistics
The initiative “The Economic Makers”, a coalition of logisticians in Germany who advocate for the image of logistics and closely accompany the action day since its inception, has summarized the role of logistics during the Corona pandemic in a thematic issue. It is available for download at:

The Central Contact Point for the Action Day is the Website
There, companies, educational institutions, associations, and organizations from the logistics economic sector can publish their events and handle participant registration. To support them, documents are provided in the download area that participating companies can use to prepare and conduct their event on April 15, 2021.
