Feb 11, 2021 at 1:45 PMThe Economic Makers Continue to Promote the Image of Logistics
Feb 11, 2021 at 2:23 PMSievert Logistics SE has joined the initiative ‘Blood Transports’. This is a coalition of companies from the logistics sector that aims to advance the fight against blood cancer and other diseases of the blood-forming system.
(Lengerich) “In Germany, thousands of people are diagnosed with blood diseases such as leukemia every year. Helping those affected is a worthwhile endeavor that we are happy to support,” says Rui Macedo, Managing Director of Sievert Logistics SE. For this reason, the logistics specialist from Lengerich is now supporting the initiative ‘Blood Transports’. The companies involved in this initiative are collectively committed to combating leukemia and other diseases of the blood-forming system. They actively participate, for example, by registering potential stem cell donors within their own company, conducting typing at trade fairs, or organizing blood donation campaigns.
Organizing Own Actions
“Acute leukemia is often curable if detected in time and treated through a stem cell transplant. Tragically, 15 to 20 percent of patients cannot find a suitable donor,” says Macedo. One reason for this is the declining number of blood and stem cell donors over the years. In addition to life-saving stem cell donations, Germany requires 15,000 blood donations of 500 ml each daily. However, the stocks of blood reserves are increasingly dwindling, leading to recurring shortages. This results in vital surgeries being postponed and treatments not being carried out. The initiative ‘Blood Transports’ addresses this challenge. Companies that join it commit to organizing an action within a year that makes a difference in this regard.
