Feb 11, 2021 at 7:40 AMKögel Trailer GmbH welcomes the detailed list of eligible intelligent trailer technologies released by the Federal Office for Goods Transport (BAG) following the launch of the funding program ‘Renewal of the Commercial Vehicle Fleet’ (ENF). The requirement to scrap a tractor unit in order to receive funding for intelligent trailer technologies seems impractical.
(Burtenbach) The BAG provides clarity for all operators of commercial vehicle fleets. The now published list includes aerodynamic add-on components as well as measures that increase loading capacities or reduce the number of trips. This category also includes long trucks, among them the extended Kögel Euro Trailer NOVUM (Long Truck Type 1) as well as lightweight vehicles and those with double-deck configurations. Additionally, craneable trailers and cooling devices with electric or hybrid drives are included. Systems such as OptiTire and Tire Pilot for tire pressure monitoring or the ‘aerodynamic add-on components’ OptiFlow Side Wings also benefit from the funding.
Kögel expressly welcomes the inclusion of innovative transport solutions that, like the Long Truck Type 1, have proven their benefits in CO2 reduction in numerous studies. In line with the company’s motto ‘Economy meets Ecology – Because we care’, the Kögel Euro Trailer NOVUM combines economic efficiency, effectiveness, and sustainability, and is a key component in meeting corporate and political climate goals in logistics, thanks to a ten percent increase in transport volume and easier handling.
Government Supports New Purchases with Up to 5,000 Euros
The acquisition of intelligent trailer technology is supported with up to 5,000 Euros or a maximum of 60 percent of the purchase costs. A prerequisite for the funding of intelligent trailer technology is the purchase of a brand-new truck that meets the Euro VI emission standards or is powered by electricity or hydrogen, provided that a truck from the Euro 0 to Euro V/EEV emission standards is scrapped at the same time. “We welcome that the BAG has now presented a comprehensive list of eligible intelligent trailer technologies, thereby providing our customers with investment security. However, it is detrimental to the renewal of commercial vehicle fleets and thus to climate protection that it remains mandatory to scrap a tractor unit in order to benefit from funding for a towed unit. In logistics practice, an average of three trailers are used per tractor unit,” explains Thomas Eschey, Managing Director of Production and Technology at Kögel Trailer.
According to the BAG, it should be noted that ‘the final assessment of the eligibility of specific measures only takes place within the framework of the respective funding procedure.’ Applications can be submitted to the funding authority until no later than April 15, 2021.
