Feb 6, 2021 at 2:38 PMThe European Pallet Association e.V. (EPAL) reports a heightened demand for ISPM 15 EPAL pallets. A few weeks after the end of the transition period regarding Brexit, significant impacts on the goods traffic between Great Britain and the EU are noticeable. While long truck traffic jams have become the norm, the need for ISPM 15 standardized wooden pallets is rising rapidly.
(Düsseldorf) Since the beginning of the year, all wooden transport means must comply with the ISPM 15 standard without exception. Domestic forests and ecosystems are to be better protected by the regulation of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), which has been in place since 2002.
However, those process participants who have not yet used IPPC-treated wooden load carriers are struggling with the transition. The consequence: supply chains are interrupted because not enough ISPM 15 standard pallets have been purchased. The resulting delays in goods trade lead to increasing uncertainty among companies. There are supply shortages, and shelves remain partially empty.
Producers and Repairers Well Prepared
“Our member companies are receiving more inquiries for ISPM 15 treated wooden load carriers for goods trade between Great Britain and the EU,” says Suzane Giurlando, Managing Director of EPAL Germany, the German national committee of the European Pallet Association (EPAL). “Since EPAL load carriers have been manufactured according to the ISPM 15 standard since 2010, our producers and repairers are well prepared for the increasing demand and can help in most cases.”
In fact, EPAL has strictly adhered to the ISPM 15 standards since 2010. EPAL wooden pallets are therefore suitable for goods transport between Great Britain and the EU without concerns, even after Brexit. EPAL pallets are marked with the IPPC logo, the treatment code HT (Heat Treatment), and the number of the responsible plant protection authority, and can be quickly and unbureaucratically checked and released by the responsible customs officials.
