Jan 28, 2021 at 5:08 PMThe Association of German Cold Storage and Cold Logistics Companies (VDKL) is pleased about a record utilization in 2020. The trend began before Corona and has now intensified. For example, the product group ‘General Frozen Foods’ has seen a significant increase.
(Bonn) The consistently high utilization of German cold storage facilities continues. With an average overall utilization of 81.4 percent, the cold storage facilities in the Association of German Cold Storage and Cold Logistics Companies (VDKL) were 1.3 percent fuller in 2020 than in 2018 (80.1 percent) and are overall as well utilized as they were 18 years ago.
“The reasons for the record utilization are primarily a high sales volume due to Corona, but also an increasing variety of goods,” explains VDKL Managing Director Jan Peilnsteiner.
For example, in the product group ‘General Frozen Foods’, the stock levels have significantly increased by 2.1% compared to the previous year.
The basis for the statistics on the utilization of German cold storage facilities is a long-term research series by the Institute for Trade Research (IfH) in Cologne. The figures from this unique nationwide research series have a representative value and reflect reliable trends.
