(Bruchsal) Truck drivers have a physically and mentally demanding job and do not always have the opportunity to behave in a balanced and healthy manner during their routes. This is especially true for very long distances. The Hegelmann Group, one of the largest logistics companies in Europe, which operates more than 4,000 of its own trucks primarily for international long-distance transport, is aware of this. With the ‘Healthy Habits’ project, Hegelmann is now committed to better health management and is launching a unique project to date. Through a YouTube channel and app, drivers and other employees receive important tips regarding their health and healthy behavior at work.
Program with the Motto ‘Healthy Habits’
“Healthy Habits” is the name of the program initiated by Hegelmann. It has been scientifically and biomedically supported by international experts and is based on a survey among employees who described their daily lives and behaviors. The result is now health and prevention tips that are relevant to the daily lives of truck drivers and thus absolutely practical and applicable. “We deliberately wanted to avoid giving general health tips at the typical advisory level, but rather address the specific needs of our truck drivers. What we convey are not platitudes, but concrete and actionable solutions for everyday work,” explains Agne Ambrazeviciene, CMO of the Hegelmann Group. The project aims to complement the company’s existing health and prevention program.
Information delivery is also life-like, practical, and modern. “Every week, a new video with health tips was uploaded on YouTube – on our own Hegelmann channel. They were also published in a driver app and shared on social networks,” says Ambrazeviciene. In total, twelve videos have been created and distributed so far.
Program Covers Three Areas
The program covers three areas: Chronic diseases focusing on obesity, smoking, sleep apnea, and hypertension; improvement of performance focusing on unbalanced sleep, isolation and depression, dehydration and malnutrition; and prevention focusing on muscle pain, drowsiness, concentration and reaction speed, exercise, and psychosocial health.
The Hegelmann Group aims to contribute to better supporting its employees and improving everyday work life with this project. “As a company, we have a special responsibility here and see ourselves as pioneers in the logistics and transportation industry,” concludes Ambrazeviciene. Therefore, this unique project has been launched in co-production with occupational health and fleet management.
