GLS Parcel Shops Remain Open During Lockdown

GLS Parcel Shops are considered essential service providers and remain open during the second lockdown, as post offices are exempt from the closure mandate. The handling of packages in the shops is contactless and follows the prescribed safety regulations.

(Neuenstein) Since post offices are exempt from the business closure mandate, around 90 percent of the over 6,000 GLS Parcel Shops are open during the second lockdown.

Pay Attention to Opening Hours

GLS Parcel Shops are mostly located in gas stations, dry cleaners, grocery stores, and are also considered post offices that are exempt from the business closure mandate because they are essential for the basic supply of the population. The open GLS Parcel Shops are thus available for package drop-off and pick-up according to their opening hours.

The health and safety of all parties involved have the highest priority even in the Parcel Shops. Package drop-off and pick-up are contactless – a signature is currently not required. In addition to the necessary hygiene measures, the Parcel Shop operators ensure that only a limited number of customers are in the store at any time and that sufficient distance is maintained.

GLS Network is Stable

“The measures we have implemented to handle this year’s record volumes are now paying off. Our strong network is stable, and we continue to deliver to our customers nationally and internationally within good timeframes,” explains Dr. Karl Pfaff, CEO of GLS Germany. “Our Parcel Shop partners are also part of the entire GLS network and contribute significantly to the basic supply. We are in constant contact with our partners and support them during this challenging time.”

Packages that cannot be delivered due to closures will be returned to the sender. Customers should therefore clarify in advance with the recipients whether packages can be accepted.
