Dec 13, 2020 at 11:18 AMDB Schenker launched the booking platform ‘Drive4Schenker’ five months ago and has already registered around 110,000 bookings. The tailored freight options provide more transparency and better digital interfaces for transport companies. Shippers benefit from faster order allocation.
(Essen) Five months after the successful launch of the digital carrier platform as part of Drive4Schenker, DB Schenker has already facilitated nearly 110,000 freight shipments through the tool. The success of the system is enabled, among other things, by the integrated carrier management database, which has over 40,000 freight forwarders registered. Drive4Schenker also benefits from the expertise of more than 400 DB Schenker branches across Europe.
Drive4Schenker allows transport service providers even faster access to open cargo offers in Europe. With the help of the platform, carriers are informed directly via email every day about suitable loads, can submit offers, and may receive a bonus. However, shippers also benefit from the digital exchange, as the expanded Drive4Schenker helps to find the right transport companies even more accurately.
Continuous Growth
Christian Drenthen, Board Member for Land Transport at DB Schenker, says: “When we rolled out the tool in July, we didn’t think we would be so successful so quickly. The number of transactions we handle through Drive4Schenker is currently doubling month by month. The number of daily loads is steadily increasing – as is the number of transport companies submitting offers through the tool.”
Markus Sontheimer, CIO & CDO of DB Schenker, adds: “With Drive4Schenker, DB Schenker proves that we are among the fastest in the high-speed universe of digitalization. Drive4Schenker operates like an internal start-up that we are now scaling up. We are constantly working hard to make the tool even smarter and more powerful.”
Simplification of Processes
Drive4Schenker simplifies processes and business operations for all parties involved and therefore also offers valuable relief to DB Schenker’s dispatchers: In the future, freight will be proposed not only to external transport companies but also to all involved business units of DB Schenker via an internal load board to optimally utilize available cargo space.
The tool is also capable of suggesting suitable transport companies for individual loads based on historical data through data analytics, thereby increasing efficiency in freight utilization. The next development steps aim to make price forecasts, route optimization, and integration of track and trace from DB Schenker even smarter. For example, it should be able to better track freight orders or offer jobs to a truck already on the road.
