The containers are filled with steel products, such as coils and sheets, destined for target destinations like China and South Africa.
(Hamburg) – The Steel Division of voestalpine is supplied with coal and ore through the Port of Hamburg for imports. A total of 68 containers are transported on the train, which operates once a week between Linz and Hamburg.
Europe’s Largest Rail Port
After unloading the steel products at the EUROKOMBI terminal, the train is reloaded with ore for the Steel Division of voestalpine at the HANSAPORT bulk terminal, which has its own station with 15 tracks for handling full train traffic. In addition to the fact that the Port of Hamburg is Europe’s largest rail port and therefore has excellent infrastructure, it has been impressing with its handling quality for decades. This innovative and sustainable solution for transporting containers in bulk freight wagons achieves synergy effects and avoids empty runs.
Christian Janecek, Managing Director of Logistik Service GmbH: “This transport supports multiple goals: an environmentally friendly and cost-effective transport option by rail, high availability through scheduled container lead times to the seaport, and not least risk diversification in the supply chain for voestalpine.”
Hamburg Port: The Most Important Port for Austria
“The Port of Hamburg has been the most important port for the Austrian economy in the container sector since the beginning of containerization. We are extremely pleased that Hamburg has once again been used as a transshipment point for the import and export goods of voestalpine since 2019. The innovative concept of ILG on behalf of LogServ convinces through resource-saving use of existing transport capacities,” Alexander Till, Head of Representation Vienna, Port of Hamburg Marketing.
