GROUP7 Implements 5-Point Strategy Against Corona

GROUP7 AG International Logistics is implementing a 5-point strategy against Corona. CEO Günther Jocher presented the strategy at the German Logistics Congress. New services can help excite existing and new customers about the offerings.

(Munich) – How to deal with the rising Corona numbers and the immediate effects on employees, supply chain, and profit expectations? On the occasion of the German Logistics Congress, Günther Jocher, CEO of GROUP7, presented his company’s 5-point strategy. The first point of the strategy is the rapid adaptation to the changed needs of the market. “We recognized the rising demand for medical protective equipment early on and supported our customers with the initially opaque import processing. By transporting a total of 31 million pieces of equipment, we were able to offset a revenue decline in other sectors such as automotive and textiles,” Jocher explained.

Exciting Customers with New Services like Skype Inventory

The second point of the GROUP7 strategy is the development of new products and services tailored to the new Corona restrictions. “An important inventory for a customer led us to the idea of handling the process digitally. Via Skype, our customers and the auditors could virtually view inventories and have our on-site employees take samples,” Günther Jocher explained. This environmentally friendly and time-saving method will also be used by the logistics service provider after Corona.

Using the Crisis to Strengthen Cohesion in the Company

Very important for GROUP7 CEO Jocher was point 3: “I consciously refrained from short-time work – we used the time to reduce vacation and strengthen our sales team.” According to GROUP7’s management, this had already proven effective: Through strong sales activity during the crisis of 2008/09, GROUP7 was able to achieve a revenue increase of 64 percent in the following year.

Continuing Investments like the Hamburg Construction Project

The fourth point in GROUP7’s pandemic package focuses on investments in future business areas. Despite the difficult situation, the company was certified according to GDP guidelines (Good Distribution Practice) to further advance the Pharma & Healthcare sector. “Our new construction project – a logistics center in Hamburg-Billbrook – is also set to start on schedule in 2021,” Jocher said regarding investments.

Using the Pandemic as a Driver for the Digitalization Process

The last point of the GROUP7 strategy is to use the pandemic as a driver for the digitalization process. “Our advanced digital safety net has proven itself for our customers in the current crisis,” says Jocher. Earlier than planned, GROUP7 also tested agile working and will implement it in the forwarding departments where it adds value. “With our 5-point strategy for dealing with Corona, we plan to move into the future even more innovatively,” Jocher concluded.
