Oct 15, 2020 at 2:30 PMThe online platform shöpping.at, founded by the Austrian Post AG, now boasts over 1,000 merchants. Currently, 2.3 million products are offered – a revenue of 60 million euros is expected for the year 2020.
(Vienna) – Over three years ago, the Austrian Post founded the start-up shöpping.at, the online marketplace for Austrian merchants. Recently, the 1,000th merchant was welcomed to the platform, and now more than 2.3 million products are available. One reason for the growing success is the easy entry into e-commerce, which at shöpping.at comes with extremely favorable conditions: Merchants incur no fixed costs, and listing products is free and unlimited. Additionally, shöpping.at provides everything from IT to marketing to customer service from a single source. This starts with CO2-neutral shipping with the Austrian Post and extends to customized software solutions or warehousing and picking services from the Post subsidiary Systemlogistik.
Corona as an accelerator for e-commerce
“During Corona, we recorded increased demand from merchants and customers. This would not have happened if we had not already built a solid foundation as a marketplace in the past years. With 1,000 Austrian merchants and over 2.3 million products, we have reached an important benchmark: However, we do not want to rest on this success but continuously develop the marketplace,” says Robert Hadzetovic, Managing Director of shöpping.at.
Family business as the thousandth merchant on shöpping.at
As the thousandth merchant, shöpping.at welcomes Romann Shop from Harmannsdorf-Rückersdorf in Lower Austria. The family business, now in its 5th generation, originally started with blacksmithing, agricultural technology, and utility machines, and about 20 years ago expanded its product range to include outdoor toys such as high-quality children’s go-karts and trampolines – these will now also be sold through shöpping.at. “As a family business, we particularly value regional purchasing and short transport routes, which we have found at shöpping.at. Especially during Corona times, it is important to strengthen the local economy and secure jobs in the country. That’s why we were also clear that we wanted to offer our products on the Austrian online marketplace,” says Eva Romann, junior manager and head of the toy division at Romann Shop.
Tripling of trade revenue expected for 2020
shöpping.at was founded in 2017 and is now the largest domestic online marketplace. Product delivery is handled in all cases by the Austrian Post, allowing online shoppers to benefit not only from convenient delivery solutions – such as delivery authorizations, package redirects, postal reception boxes, preferred branches, and pickup stations – but also to be assured that all shipments are delivered CO2-neutral.
Local merchants were able to leverage their strengths
While international supply chains were interrupted due to COVID-19, local merchants were able to leverage their strengths. shöpping.at helped them with its offerings and numerous services. Access numbers on the platform even increased tenfold during peak times – currently, around 700,000 users access the online marketplace each month, and 200,000 packages have already been shipped via shöpping.at in the first half of the year. While trade revenue in 2019 was still just under 20 million euros, around 60 million is expected for 2020.
