Starting in June 2023, the manufacturer will handle global spare parts supply through the logistics center at its headquarters in Ehingen. The centerpiece is a 30-meter high pallet high-bay warehouse built in silo construction.
(Biberach an der Riß) Liebherr-Werke Ehingen GmbH is constructing a new central spare parts warehouse at its headquarters in Ehingen, Baden-Württemberg, in collaboration with Jungheinrich. From here, Liebherr, as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of mobile cranes, aims to manage its global spare parts supply starting in June 2023.
The core of the logistics solution, provided by Jungheinrich as a complete package, is a 6-aisle automatic pallet high-bay warehouse (HRL) in silo construction with 18,000 storage locations – including roof and wall cladding. The dimensions are impressive, measuring 80 meters in length, 75 meters in width, and a height of 30 meters. Additionally, there is a 2-aisle, three-deep small parts shuttle warehouse (SKL) with storage locations for a total of 40,000 containers.
Maximizing Space Utilization While Maintaining High Throughput
With these two types of warehouses, Liebherr’s spare parts supply achieves maximum space utilization while maintaining high throughput. The company aims to set new standards in terms of quality, functionality, and safety with the commissioning and ensure consistently high availability of its equipment around the globe.
The product range of Liebherr-Werke Ehingen includes state-of-the-art telescopic and lattice boom cranes of various sizes on mobile and crawler chassis: The spectrum ranges from all-terrain mobile cranes with 35 tons to the gigantic crawler crane with a lifting capacity of 3,000 tons.
Jungheinrich Provides Complete System
The system solution developed by Jungheinrich as the general contractor for Liebherr-Werke Ehingen includes, in addition to the HRL and SKL racking systems, the latest conveyor technology for containers and pallets – including control and visualization – and six pallet handling devices from Jungheinrich subsidiary MIAS. These ensure speed in the inbound and outbound processes of Liebherr spare parts with two load handling devices each in the fully automated processes and guarantee trouble-free operation around the clock.
The Goal: Maximum Efficiency with Maximum Transparency
The control of not only the automated system but also all processes in the surrounding manual storage areas is managed by the Jungheinrich Warehouse Management System (WMS) in dialogue with Liebherr’s ERP system. All functions and solutions are precisely tailored to Liebherr’s requirements. This includes, among other things, the pre-commissioning of containers in multi-order mode with pick-by-/put-to-light, followed by consolidation during pallet commissioning. Additionally, there is a pick-and-pack commissioning in shipping cartons, both at the same location as the container pre-commissioning and at another workstation, where commissioning is done from both pallets and containers into shipping cartons. The goal: maximum efficiency with maximum transparency for all intralogistics tasks in the central spare parts supply by Liebherr-Werke Ehingen.
