Oct 13, 2020 at 7:40 AMWith the campaign ‘Ready for Rail’, the consulting company Gomultimodal GmbH, specialized in combined freight transport, addresses the increased need for information and consulting to strengthen rail freight transport and offers three consulting modules for the implementation of combined transport, particularly for manufacturing, trading, and logistics companies. The special feature: The entry module, a solution-oriented short consultation, is free for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
(Hamburg) The shift of truck transport to environmentally friendly traffic management in combined transport is an important building block for the necessary CO2 reduction in freight transport and is supported by politics in Europe with financial resources in the three-digit billion range. For companies that support the political will to shift transport, for example, to rail and see the reduction of CO2 emissions as a significant part of their corporate goals, combined transport is the ideal solution. The rail combined with the flexibility of the road provides companies with the foundation for a future-oriented strategy for more climate protection and sustainable transport. This is where the consulting campaign ‘Ready for Rail’ comes in.
Transport in combined transport is more complex than continuous road transport and presents companies with new challenges in operational processes. Especially in intra-European freight traffic, it is not just about informing, planning, and booking individual transports. Rather, it is about establishing environmentally friendly transport solutions in the company in a long-term and sensible manner – and that also from an economic perspective.
Utilize Consulting Offers to Achieve Defined Climate Goals
“The continuous shift of freight transport to rail is a task that undoubtedly cannot be implemented overnight,” emphasizes Gerhard Oswald, Managing Partner of Gomultimodal GmbH. “With our consulting offer, we want to eliminate barriers and existing reservations, while simultaneously building competence in the development of rail transport and providing companies with a way to realize defined climate goals.”
Consulting Modules for Different Requirements
The consulting offer ‘Ready for Rail’ consists of three modules. Module 1 offers a qualified introduction to transport handling in combined transport. For SMEs, this simple and quick check-up is free of charge. Based on the freight volume of a company within Germany, Gomultimodal researches suitable providers of transport services in house-to-house transport and shows alternatives to the existing transport handling by naming the proportional CO2 savings per transport (rail share). Module 2 additionally focuses on possible cooperation partners to realize an efficient round trip in house-to-house transport.
Module 3 is the ideal foundation for companies that want to implement a future-oriented and long-term strategy for sustainable transport in goods receipt and goods dispatch, also considering their own rail connection. By analyzing the transport data provided by companies for the consultation, Gomultimodal identifies pairings for round trips in combined transport and initiates cooperation between market participants.
Startup moovment Enables Compensation of Logistics Emissions
For companies that cannot achieve their climate goals solely through a shift of transport to rail, the startup moovment offers compensation for unavoidable emissions through the purchase of certificates. By achieving compensation in Germany through the shift of suitable transports to rail, this directly contributes to the German transport turnaround in logistics. Founder Christian Wutke assesses the effectiveness of his approach from a sustainability perspective as higher than that of conventional climate protection projects, which primarily implement cost-effective measures in the Southern Hemisphere and thereby suggest that climate protection is possible at the lowest costs. The compensation certificates can be included in the company’s carbon balance. The accounting of transport emissions is carried out according to the standard for calculating logistics emissions EN16258.
