This means relief for the parking situation in CargoCity South. Completion is planned for the end of 2021. The 14,500 square meter area is located in the southern part of the airport.
(Frankfurt/Main) Fraport AG has today started the construction of a new truck parking lot in CargoCity South at Frankfurt Airport. The approximately 14,500 square meter area is located in the operational area near Gate 32 in the southern part of the airport. It is intended to provide space for an additional 61 trucks. This means that a total of 135 parking spaces will be available in CargoCity South. Modern sanitary facilities, including shower rooms, are also planned. The parking lot is expected to be operational by the end of 2021 after about a year of construction time.
Significant Relief
“The new parking lot will significantly relieve the parking situation in CargoCity South. With this new offering, we are providing sufficient space and modern sanitary facilities that will improve processes in the busy CargoCity South for the involved partners,” says Max Philipp Conrady, Head of Central Freight Infrastructure at Fraport. “At the beginning of the Corona pandemic, it became clear again that CargoCity South is a central hub for urgently needed goods. We also expect that air freight will play a central role in the distribution of important goods in the future. Therefore, we want to offer our customers even better service with the additional parking spaces in a timely manner.” Freight forwarders and logistics companies sometimes have to bridge waiting times until they can complete their orders at the respective logistics warehouse in CargoCity South. They can spend this time at the existing parking lot near Gate 31 or in the future at the new one at Gate 32.
Free Use of Sanitary Facilities
Entry and exit will be regulated by five barriers. The use of the sanitary facilities is free of charge for users of the parking lot. The total construction costs amount to a low single-digit million figure. In addition to the truck parking spaces, there are also 23 car parking spaces and two bus parking spaces planned in the public area, separated by a fence.
