Sep 1, 2020 at 7:05 AMTire manufacturer Bridgestone supplies the tires for the Volta Zero vehicle and demo truck fleet of Volta Trucks as part of the market launch. The Volta Zero will be presented at an online event on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at 10:00 AM (11:00 AM CEST).
(Sigtuna) Volta Trucks, the Scandinavian start-up for fully electric vehicles, has announced a tire partnership with Bridgestone, one of the world’s leading companies in the tire and rubber industry. The cooperation includes the showcased vehicle, which will be presented at an online event on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Additionally, the demo vehicles are set to enter the testing phase with fleet operators in early 2021.
Large logistics fleet operators have already signed up for test runs of the Volta Zero, including the DPD Group in the UK as well as Bring and Posten in Scandinavia. Orders for the vehicle have also been received in both markets.
Round-the-Clock Operation Even Under Strict Noise Regulations
Bridgestone has equipped the Volta Zero with the R-Steer 002 in 285/70R19.5 146/144M on both the front and rear axles. The tread pattern of the steering axle tire allows for optimal driving behavior for fully electric vehicles with high torque. Thanks to its optimized groove design, the R-Steer 002 also significantly reduces noise levels. This is an important feature of the Volta Zero, which is primarily designed for use in urban areas. Its quiet, fully electric drive enables operation in urban areas around the clock – even under the strictest noise regulations.
“The transport industry is undergoing rapid change, and the demands on vehicles are increasingly characterized by the keyword CASE – connected, autonomous, shared, and electric,” says Christian Mühlhäuser, Managing Director Bridgestone Central Europe. “We are pleased to collaborate with the new electric vehicle manufacturer in the launch of the Volta Zero demo fleet. As a company, we always want to partner with others to contribute to the future of mobility.”
“I am delighted that Volta Trucks is entering into a partnership with Bridgestone for the tires of our launch vehicles and demo fleet,” says Rob Fowler, Chief Executive Officer of Volta Trucks. “As the manufacturer of the world’s first large, purpose-built, fully electric commercial vehicle, we are pioneering the field of electrically powered commercial vehicles. Therefore, we are excited to work with an innovative and globally recognized tire manufacturer like Bridgestone, who can support our advanced ambitions.”
About the Volta Zero
The Volta Zero is the world’s first purpose-built fully electric 16-ton vehicle designed for urban freight deliveries, reducing the environmental impact of goods deliveries in city centers. Designed from the ground up with a pure electric range of 150-200 km (95-125 miles), the Volta Zero is expected to save approximately 180,000 tons of CO2 by 2025.
Safety is also a priority at Volta Trucks, with the goal of being one of the safest manufacturers of large commercial vehicles. The Volta Zero has been designed from the outset for electric drive, allowing for a progressive evolution in vehicle and pedestrian safety. Thanks to the absence of an internal combustion engine, the driver of a Volta Zero sits in a central driving position, with a much lower seat height than in a conventional truck. This combination, along with a glasshouse-style cabin, provides the driver with a 220-degree view, minimizing dangerous blind spots.
The first prototype of the Volta Zero is currently under construction and is expected to hit the market later in 2020. Additionally, the demo vehicles are set to enter the testing phase with fleet operators in the first quarter of 2021.
