(Helsinki/Berlin) The Helsinki-based company Wolt, which is now operating in 23 countries and over 80 cities worldwide, is launching its service in Berlin today, initially in the districts of Berlin-Mitte and Pankow (Prenzlauer Berg). Over 100 local restaurants are already ready to have their food delivered to customers by Wolt.
The food delivery service Wolt, originating from Helsinki, has officially announced its entry into the German market – starting in Berlin. Initially, Wolt will offer its service in the districts of Berlin-Mitte and Pankow (Prenzlauer Berg) with the aim of quickly expanding into neighboring districts. From the very beginning, Wolt has partnered with more than 100 restaurants that will deliver food to customers in Berlin with the help of couriers.
Challenging Start
Wolt was founded in Helsinki. The market conditions for delivery services here are tough: the population and density are low, there are difficult weather conditions, and there was no culture of delivery services. To overcome these geographical and logistical challenges, Wolt has focused on technology, efficiency, and customer experience from the start. Based on this foundation, the company has grown significantly and steadily since 2014. Just three years ago, the company was present in four Nordic countries and 10 cities.
“When we founded Wolt with our first 10 restaurants in Helsinki, I never imagined that one day we would expand our operations to Berlin. But the world is indeed a strange place. And when I look at the current state of delivery services in Germany, I truly believe that we can do a lot to make this country even more livable – initially in Berlin and later in many other cities. As for Berlin, I have always been a big fan of the city, with all its diverse restaurants and vibrant culture. That’s why we are particularly excited to take on this challenge and elevate the food and delivery service culture in this city to a new level!” says Miki Kuusi , CEO and co-founder of Wolt.
Rapid Growth
Since then, the company has made significant growth strides and is now operating in 23 countries and over 80 cities. In Germany, the startup aims to provide a unique alternative for restaurants, customers, and suppliers alike. “At Wolt, we work as locally as possible. All the countries we operate in function very differently and act independently of one another. Therefore, we hire a local team in each country that understands the needs of our customers, the culture, and the local gastronomy. For example, our customer service representatives respond to a customer inquiry in the respective local language in an average of less than a minute. We look forward to a successful launch in the German market,” says Miki Kuusi.
