(Bonn) After the Corona-related interruption at the end of February, the ABB FIA Formula E will conclude its 2019/2020 season in August with six races over nine days. From August 5 to August 13, the teams of the fully electric Formula racing series will compete against each other in three double-headers at the historic Berlin-Tempelhof airport site. High tension is guaranteed, as the competition for the world championship title is still completely open. Additionally, the track configuration will be changed for each of the double races, providing the drivers with constantly new challenges.
Measures Against Corona
To minimize the risk of spreading the Corona pandemic, the final races of Formula E will take place without spectators at the track. Furthermore, Formula E has established many other measures to minimize risk, including a restriction on the number of people present on-site – for example, drivers, team staff, logistics teams – to a maximum of 1,000, mandatory Corona tests, social distancing rules, and the obligation to wear mouth-nose protection. DHL, as the logistics partner of Formula E, has also taken extensive measures to ensure that logistics processes are safe and that all legal requirements for protection against the Corona virus are met. “We are glad that the innovative and sustainable Formula E can now celebrate its season finale with three exciting double-headers in Berlin during this challenging time,” says Arjan Sissing, Head of Brand Marketing at DPDHL Group. “Even though the atmosphere without spectators at the track is certainly unusual, the races will surely be thrilling due to the varied track layouts and the high performance density in the driver field.” The current leader, Portuguese Antonio Felix da Costa from the DS Techeetah team, has only an eleven-point lead over the second-placed New Zealander Mitch Evans from the Panasonic Jaguar Racing team. Currently in third place is British Alexander Sims from the BMW i Andretti Motorsport team. For the upcoming seventh season 2020/2021, Formula E has already published a preliminary race calendar. The season opener is planned for January 16, 2021, with the E-Prix in Santiago, Chile. A total of 14 races are scheduled in twelve cities worldwide.
