Jul 20, 2020 at 6:03 AMDeutsche Post DHL supports the Global Logistics Cluster. The supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19 have made this process a more complicated but all the more important task. The cloud-based platform Resilience360 provides visualized information on supply chain risks. This allows the Global Logistics Cluster to assist humanitarian organizations in responding to potential disruptions in real-time.
(Bonn) Deutsche Post DHL Group (DPDHL) and Resilience360 (R360) provide the Global Logistics Cluster, led by the World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations, with access to the Resilience360 platform. This offers comprehensive risk management solutions across the entire supply chain. The Global Logistics Cluster is part of a group of humanitarian actors: in the event of a disaster, it supports humanitarian logistics organizations by ensuring strategic coordination, information management, and logistics solutions. During the pandemic, it has the task of coordinating the delivery of aid supplies to healthcare personnel as quickly as possible. The supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19 have made this process a more complicated but all the more important task. Therefore, DPDHL, in collaboration with R360, supports the Logistics Cluster in monitoring the supply chains for the transport of humanitarian and medical goods.
Proud of the Support
“We are proud to have supported the United Nations since 2005 with our disaster management program GoHelp,” says Monika Schaller, Executive Vice President Corporate Communications, Sustainability & Brand at Deutsche Post DHL Group. “As part of our responsibility to the humanitarian community, we are now bringing our logistical core competencies to bear in the fight against COVID-19.” “The Global Logistics Cluster strives to avoid inefficiencies and ensure optimal resource utilization for all humanitarian organizations. With the help of Resilience360, we can now share time-critical information with aid organizations and show them where a risk might arise, so they can prepare for it,” reports Bruno Vandemeulebroecke, Deputy Global Logistics Cluster Coordinator.
COVID-19 Intelligence Center Established
Using the information it receives from the cloud-based “Software as a Service” platform R360, the Logistics Cluster visualizes humanitarian supply chains. This allows the Logistics Cluster to specifically determine whether there is a risk of a supply chain disruption and, if necessary, to revert to an appropriate emergency plan. R360 has also recently established a COVID-19 Intelligence Center to help clients respond to restrictions in cross-border air, sea, and land transport as well as global lockdown measures. Thanks to this real-time information, both humanitarian organizations and businesses can anticipate disruptions related to the coronavirus crisis and deliver vital aid supplies where they are needed.
About the Disaster Response Team (DRT)
The DRTs have been part of DPDHL Group’s disaster management program GoHelp in cooperation with the United Nations since 2005. As part of this partnership, the company provides the United Nations and national disaster management authorities with free access to its logistical core competencies and the logistical know-how of over 500 qualified volunteer DHL employees, who can be deployed within 72 hours of a natural disaster. Since the beginning of the cooperation, the Disaster Response Teams have already been active in more than 45 missions in 20 countries. Most recently, the DRTs assisted the National Emergency Commission of Costa Rica in establishing a distribution center for COVID-19 aid supplies and provided logistical support following the devastating tropical cyclone in the Bahamas. In addition to DRT deployments, the company supports airports in disaster-prone regions under the GoHelp umbrella with workshops to prepare for potential natural disasters as part of the prevention program Get Airports Ready For Disaster (GARD).
