Jun 29, 2020 at 6:50 AMThe Neuss-Düsseldorf Ports are selling their stake in Neuss Trimodal to the two operational partners Kombiverkehr with 70 percent shares and Ambrogio with 30 percent shares. This aims to pave the way for the further development of the company.
(Neuss) Retroactively as of January 1, 2020, Neuss-Düsseldorf Ports GmbH & Co. KG (NDH) is transferring its shareholding in Neuss Trimodal GmbH to the remaining two shareholders. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für kombinierten Güterverkehr mbH & Co. KG (Kombiverkehr) thus holds 70 percent of the shares and Ambrogio GmbH 30 percent. Consequently, the shares of the Neuss terminal operator are now entirely in the hands of the two operational partners. “With the new structure, we can generate business through our operational partners, an ideal constellation from our perspective,” report the two managing directors of Neuss Trimodal, Karsten Scheidhauer and Daniel Jähn. “With the sale, we are paving the way to place the further development of the terminal in the hands of operational specialists for intermodal transport. After we transferred our operational business to our investment company RheinCargo in 2012, the sale of the Neuss Trimodal shares is another step in our strategic realignment. After a long and trusting collaboration, we will of course remain connected to Neuss Trimodal as the property owner of the container terminal,” explains NDH managing director Sascha Odermatt.
Approximately 250,000 Containers Annually
The Neuss Trimodal GmbH, founded in 2004, operates the terminal at Tilsiter Straße in the Neuss port. On an area of approximately 88,000 square meters, up to 250,000 loading units are handled annually. A large portion of the volumes comes from the West Ports of Zeebrugge, Antwerp, and Rotterdam. The container volumes are supplemented by continental traffic to and from Vienna, Wels, and Graz (Austria); Budapest (Hungary); Gallarate (Italy); Hefei (China) and a high-frequency container connection between Frenkendorf/Basel (Switzerland) and Neuss. The trend is rising. To remain nationally and internationally competitive, the Neuss-Düsseldorf Ports have invested around 22 million euros in the expansion of the infrastructure of their container terminals in recent years. In general, a rapid development of cargo volumes in container traffic can be observed. Since 1990, the average annual growth rate has been about ten percent. The beginnings of container handling in the Neuss port date back to 1986; in that year, NDH built the first terminal and put it into operation.
Neuss-Düsseldorf Ports
Neuss-Düsseldorf Ports GmbH & Co. KG was formed in 2003 through the merger of the previously independently operating Rhine ports of Neuss and Düsseldorf. The merger of the two locations, each over 100 years old, laid the foundation for the development of a modern trimodal logistics center with a total area of 500 hectares, 75 kilometers of track network, and service workshops for rail vehicles and handling equipment. The company includes, among others, RheinCargo GmbH, the second-largest inland port company in Germany.
