Jun 24, 2020 at 10:29 AMThe European Freight Alliance of International Forwarders AG, short ELVIS, is starting a cooperation with SNAP Account, a smart payment and booking platform for truck parking spaces, which includes various benefits for drivers.
(Alzenau) The Corona crisis has severely impacted the economy worldwide. One of the most pressing issues for many companies right now is reorganizing the far-reaching supply chains. Logistics plays a central role in this. “However, the numerous restrictions and impairments caused by the pandemic are also making life difficult for truck drivers,” says Roger Haschka, SNAP project manager at the European Freight Alliance of International Forwarders AG (ELVIS). Even before the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus, it was often extremely difficult for drivers to find a suitable place to pause their vehicle. The cause of this is the tense parking situation. According to a recent study by the Federal Highway Research Institute, there is a shortage of at least 23,500 truck parking spaces along the highways in this country. The impairments caused by the Corona crisis further complicate matters. For example, many service areas still have closed sanitary facilities. Food options are also limited in many places.
Stressful parking search eliminated
To alleviate the resulting problems, ELVIS has now signed a framework agreement with SNAP Account. Through the smart payment and booking platform, ELVIS partners can easily book truck parking spaces along their transport routes by providing license plate numbers and driver names. The nerve-wracking and time-consuming search for a suitable parking space is eliminated. In addition, companies can profitably market their own spaces through SNAP. “In this way, we not only offer our partners the opportunity to do something for their drivers but also to improve their revenue situation,” explains Haschka. This service is currently offered at 223 rest areas. Also new in the alliance’s range is the so-called Safety-Bag, which allows drivers to comply with important hygiene rules even without appropriately equipped sanitary facilities. It contains hand and surface disinfectants as well as a multifunctional cloth that can be worn as a mouth and nose protection, headband, hat, or scarf. ELVIS partner companies, as well as transport companies that are not part of the alliance, can obtain the Safety-Bag through the ELVIS online shop. ELVIS AG aims to set an example and proactively respond to the hygiene regulations expected in the future. Improving the appreciation for professional drivers and their work is also one of the goals of the cooperation with the gas station operator Wilhelm Hoyer GmbH & Co. KG from Visselhövede: Truck drivers from member companies can look forward to a free coffee when using the Hoyer fuel card at selected gas stations and rest areas. The forwarders, in turn, can enjoy special conditions when refueling at around 300 Hoyer and 700 acceptance gas stations.
