Dematic Automates the Central Warehouse at Applitec Moutier

Dematic, the provider of intralogistics solutions from Germany, has been commissioned by the Swiss tool manufacturer Applitec Moutier SA to automate a new central warehouse. An AutoStore® system will be installed.

(Heusenstamm/Bussy-Saint-Georges, F) Dematic is delivering an AutoStore^® system to the Swiss tool manufacturer Applitec Moutier SA. The developer and producer of high-end cutting tools for machining and micromechanics has tasked Dematic with automating a new building at its central warehouse in Moutier, Switzerland. The storage and order picking will be carried out using the automated small parts warehouse. Thanks to its compact design, AutoStore^® efficiently utilizes the space of the new building while ensuring optimal storage density. The commissioning of the system is planned for October 2020.“After a thorough analysis of various solutions for automated storage and order picking, which we conducted in cooperation with the consulting company Stelog SA, AutoStore^® proved to be optimal for us. The system impresses with its productivity and numerous expansion options,” says Laslo Pataki, Deputy Managing Director of Applitec Moutier SA.

Efficient Use of Space

The compact storage and goods-to-person piece picking system can be easily adapted to the local conditions and convinced the tool manufacturer with numerous other advantages: “AutoStore^® efficiently utilizes the available space, allowing us to achieve a high storage density. Additionally, the solution automatically supplies the fixed picking stations, saving our employees unnecessary trips to the warehouse,” says Pataki. The system also ensures optimal management of storage locations, according to Pataki, by dividing storage units into multiple compartments, thus maximizing space utilization. “Furthermore, with the help of AutoStore^®, we can pre-plan orders and thereby reduce the time required for our employees,” says Pataki.As with all AutoStore^® solutions developed and implemented by Dematic, the system at Applitec Moutier SA is designed to support the company’s future growth. For example, storage capacity can be increased by expanding the aluminum grids and adding additional robots without interrupting operations.
