Jun 8, 2020 at 7:00 AMWith the groundbreaking ceremony, the logistics company DSV celebrated the expansion of its logistics center in Lahr/Black Forest. The expansion will double the capacity, adding a total of 24,000 m². The construction is expected to be completed by the end of November 2020.
(Bremen/Lahr) On June 5th, the construction work for the expansion of the DSV logistics center in Lahr officially started with a ceremonial groundbreaking. An additional 24,000 m² of storage space is to be created by the end of November 2020, with the first 12,000 m² already being completed in October. Thus, the Danish transport and logistics service provider is creating space for new business at the Black Forest multi-user location by doubling the storage capacities.
Representatives from business, politics, and media took the opportunity of the groundbreaking to inform themselves about the planned logistics center both virtually via live stream and in small groups on-site. Together with Markus Ibert, the chairman of the association “Industrial and Commercial Park Raum Lahr” and the mayor of the city of Lahr, as well as Jörg Werder, sales engineer of the construction company Goldbeck, DSV Solutions explained the upcoming construction steps and the future use of the 24,000 m² extension. “Due to the constantly growing demand and increased service requirements in the southern Germany area, we are soon reaching the limits of our existing capacities at the current location,” says Friedbert Dieterle, site manager and senior manager logistics of DSV Solutions GmbH. “With the planned expansion, we are already securing the future viability of our branch by preparing for future challenges early on.” The expansion of the site not only creates space for new business but also jobs in the region – 80 new positions are planned.
Positive Sign for Lahr and the Region
For the association chairman and mayor Markus Ibert, the expansion is a very positive sign, not only for Lahr but for the entire region: “DSV is active for numerous companies here in the region. That an expansion is now taking place shows that our economy is very well positioned and future-proof. I am pleased about this development and wish DSV Solutions continued success and good cooperation with our companies here on-site.”
Currently, the DSV logistics center in Lahr covers an area of 76,000 m² – an additional 44,000 m² of land is to be built with two additional hall sections to meet the growing demand. The construction work at the multi-user location is expected to be completely finished by autumn 2020. Two halls of 10,000 m² each and an additional 4,000 m² mezzanine will be created. After the completion of the extension, DSV Solutions will have 50,500 m² of storage capacity and 70,000 parking spaces as a tenant of the property at the startkLahr Airport & Business Park Raum Lahr. Currently, the logistics provider stores technical products, consumer goods, food, packaging, and medical products from around 30 customers at the Lahr location. In the course of the upcoming expansion, new business has already been acquired, which is to be processed in the new part of the logistics center starting in autumn.
Location Advantage in the Southwest
Lahr meets the requirements of the logistics provider for high-quality handling of storage business and enables short transport routes through extensive connectivity: located directly on the airport premises, 30 km from the Rhine port of Kehl, and in close proximity to the A5. For a multi-user location, the location plays a crucial role, as the capacities are utilized by different customers who serve individual networks. To be able to respond individually to customer requests, DSV Solutions offers flexible value-added services in Lahr in addition to storage, display construction, a customs warehouse, a certified food warehouse (IFS-HACCP), and a medical product warehouse (ISO-13485).
