Jun 2, 2020 at 7:00 AMThis Saturday marked the end of the Austrian Army’s support at the logistics site in Hagenbrunn for the Austrian Post. After thorough disinfection over the weekend, the Post will resume sole operations at the site starting today, Monday.
(Vienna) This Saturday, the two-week support provided by the Austrian Armed Forces at the postal logistics site in Hagenbrunn came to an end. Up to 140,000 packages per day were sorted by the military as part of this support. The last soldiers and civilian employees are leaving today, Saturday, after which the entire building will be disinfected again by the ABC defense unit. Starting Monday, the Austrian Post will take over the complete operational management of the logistics center again.
“The COVID-19 crisis and the extraordinarily high package volume have posed special challenges for us. Therefore, I am extremely pleased that the Austrian Armed Forces have supported the Austrian Post as critical infrastructure in the current situation. This not only ensured the operation of the logistics center in Hagenbrunn for all customers but also took care of the well-being and health of all employees. I am very grateful for this valuable support to all soldiers and civilian staff,” says Post General Director DI Dr. Georg Pölzl.
With the return of the core staff from quarantine and the newly acquired personnel, normal operations can be resumed at the Hagenbrunn site with a full team of 300 people. Personnel companies will continue to be deployed during peak times for additional support.
INCREASED TESTING AT ALL LOGISTICS SITES
As in all logistics centers, the body temperature of employees will be measured before entering the building in Hagenbrunn. Additionally, weekly tests will be conducted until further notice to closely monitor developments. The Post will also carry out random testing at all other logistics sites.
Furthermore, the Austrian Post, in collaboration with health authorities, has reevaluated the internal COVID-19 safety measures and further optimized and intensified them at all major locations such as the logistics centers: Where shuttle buses are used, adherence to empty seating rows will be more strictly monitored, work shifts will start with time intervals, and joint breaks of individual work groups within a work shift will be prohibited.
PACKAGE DISTRIBUTION: NORMAL OPERATIONS IN EAST REGION BEGINNING OF JUNE
To address the COVID-19-related delays in the two package logistics centers in the Vienna metropolitan area, the Post has put together a comprehensive package of measures:
- Personnel support from the Armed Forces in the package logistics centers in Hagenbrunn and Vienna-Inzersdorf
- Special shifts from Post employees, support from other regions and business areas
- Distribution and sorting of packages by other logistics locations of the Post
This ensures that the quality expected from the Austrian Post will be restored as quickly as possible. By the beginning of June, package distribution in the East region (Lower Austria, Vienna, Burgenland) is expected to return to normal operations. Package shipping within other federal states – for example, from Vorarlberg to Styria – has continued to operate within the usual timeframes. The current situation has no impact on the delivery of letters.
